Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

At Elermore Vale Public School Special Religious Education, sometimes known as scripture, is delivered on Wednesday afternoons.

On enrolment parents/carers will be provided with an SRE participation letter to complete and return to office staff. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be provided in writing to the school.

Our school is able to offer two options in Special Religious Education (SRE):

  • Information for the provider of Islamic special religious education taught at Elermore Vale Public School can be found at
    http://www.isre.org.au

During the time that SRE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space with a teacher supervising. They will participate in meaningful activities such as reading, revision and independent study.

Students who participate in SRE will not in any way be disadvantaged regarding their normal class time as the curriculum will not progress during SRE.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
